The short answer
Crepey skin is thin, finely wrinkled skin that has lost collagen and elastin, so the best plan rebuilds and tightens. SkinTyte uses gentle infrared heat to tighten crepey skin on the face, neck and body. BBL with SkinSmooth and MOXI improve the texture and sun damage that often come with it, and Sculptra helps when volume loss is part of the picture. A retinoid, Alastin skincare and daily SPF support it all.
Understanding your skin
Crepey skin usually comes from a mix of sun, time and changes inside your body. Knowing which ones apply to you helps us pick treatments that work.
Crepey skin typically comes from sun damage, as UV rays break down the elastin fibers that let skin snap back (Cleveland Clinic).
The outer layer of skin thins and the fat layer underneath gets thinner, so skin has less padding (MedlinePlus).
After menopause, skin thickness drops about 1.13% and collagen about 2% each year (Clinical Interventions in Aging).
Gaining and losing a lot of weight stretches the skin and can bring on crepey skin earlier (Cleveland Clinic).
Oil glands make less oil as we age, which makes skin drier (MedlinePlus). Dehydrated skin shows crepiness more.
Some medicines, such as the steroid prednisone, can contribute to crepey skin (Cleveland Clinic). Never stop a medication without talking to your doctor.
Know your skin
Crepey skin is a texture problem: the skin itself is thin and finely wrinkled, like crepe paper (Cleveland Clinic). Sagging is a support problem: skin has loosened and the fat and bone underneath have shrunk, so tissue droops. Many people have some of both.

Sagging skin
What it looks like
Thin, crinkly skin with many fine lines, like crepe paper
Loose, drooping skin, softer jawline, jowls or neck laxity
Common areas
Under the eyes, neck, chest, upper arms, knees and abdomen
Jawline, jowls, cheeks and neck
Main cause
Sun damage, thinning skin and loss of elastin
Collagen loss plus fat and bone loss underneath
If you have a lot of loose, hanging skin or heavy jowls, skin treatments alone won't lift it. We'll tell you honestly if a surgical consult makes more sense.
Your options
We match the treatment to the area and the cause. Here's what each option does best, with evidence from leading medical sources.
Best for: crepey skin on the neck, arms, abdomen and face
Infrared light gently heats the deeper skin to contract collagen and trigger new collagen growth. Studies of infrared devices show improved skin laxity, though results vary from person to person (Facial Plastic Surgery Clinics). We use it on the face, right around the eyes and all over the body.
Best for: crepey skin with sun spots, redness and dullness
Crepey skin often comes with sun damage. BBL clears spots and redness, and the SkinSmooth step included with every BBL targets fine lines and texture. Light treatments are a standard tool for sun-damaged skin (AAD).
Best for: crepey texture, fine lines and uneven tone
Fractionated laser resurfacing is one of the treatments dermatologists use for crepey skin (Cleveland Clinic). MOXI is a gentle version with little downtime.
Best for: crepey skin with volume loss in the face
A collagen stimulator that helps your body build its own collagen, with results that can last more than two years (Cleveland Clinic). It's FDA-approved for facial wrinkles (FDA), and we also use it off-label on the body, such as crepey arms, chest or abdomen.
Best for: thin skin, fine lines and texture
Microneedling can improve sagging skin, wrinkles and uneven texture, with full results over several months (AAD). Adding PDGF brings growth factors to the skin while it heals.
Best for: everyday support and protecting results
Retinol can help restore elasticity and thicken collagen, and moisturizers with hydroxy acids or hyaluronic acid help too (Cleveland Clinic). We often add Alastin.

The inside-out approach
It can play a big role. Estrogen helps skin stay thick and hold collagen. Research suggests skin collagen may drop by as much as 30% in the first five years after menopause, and studies have found estrogen therapy can improve skin thickness and hydration (Clinical Interventions in Aging). A 2013 review found that estrogen loss after menopause speeds up skin aging (Dermato-Endocrinology).
Hormone therapy isn't FDA-approved to treat crepey skin, and it isn't right for everyone. But if your skin thinned along with hot flashes, poor sleep or mood changes, it's worth looking at the whole picture. That's why at Epiphany Clinic, we start with how you feel.

Protect your results
Stay in the shade when you can and use SPF 30+ on your neck, chest and arms, not just your face (Cleveland Clinic).
Keep skin hydrated with a moisturizer that has hyaluronic acid or hydroxy acids (Cleveland Clinic).
Retinoids help increase collagen, but creams alone give subtle results at best (AAD). Think of them as support, not a fix.
Foods rich in vitamins A, C, D and E and omega-3s support skin, and avoiding big weight swings helps too (Cleveland Clinic).

Your questions, answered
Can crepey skin be reversed?
It can be improved, though not erased. Treatments like retinoids, fractional laser, fillers and heat-based tightening can all help (Cleveland Clinic). Most people get the best results from a combination plus daily sun protection.
How many SkinTyte treatments will I need?
Most people need a series. For light-based skin tightening, 3–5 treatments are typical, with results showing two to six months after the last one (AAD). We'll recommend a plan for your skin at your consult.
Can you treat crepey skin on my arms, knees or stomach?
Yes. We love using SkinTyte all over the body, including the arms, chest, abdomen and knees, and right around the eyes. If you have a large amount of loose skin, for example after major weight loss, surgery may give better results, and we'll tell you if so.
Do creams for crepey skin work?
Skin-firming creams give subtle results at best, and some people see no change (AAD). A retinoid and good moisturizer are worth using, but in-office treatments do the heavy lifting.
At what age does crepey skin start?
It usually begins in your 40s, but it can show up in your 20s with heavy tanning bed use or large weight swings (Cleveland Clinic). Menopause can speed it up.
How much does crepey skin treatment cost in American Fork?
Consultations are complimentary. Cost depends on the treatment, the size of the area and how many sessions you need, and Beauty Bank members save on many services. See our price guide for SkinTyte, BBL and Sculptra.
