About BBL HEROic®
BBL (BroadBand Light) HEROic® by Sciton uses gentle pulses of light to target brown spots, sun damage, redness and uneven tone. Light energy is absorbed by pigment and visible vessels, which then fade over the following days and weeks, revealing clearer, more even skin.
Research suggests regular BBL can do more than fade spots. A Stanford study found that after BBL treatments, the gene-expression pattern of aged skin shifted to more closely resemble that of younger skin (Journal of Investigative Dermatology). Results vary from person to person.

The research
Yes, and the science behind it runs deep. BBL HEROic is Sciton's BroadBand Light, and we consider it the gold standard of intense pulsed light (IPL), the light-based technology dermatologists use to clear sun spots and redness. In a 2025 review of 41 clinical trials, IPL treatments showed efficacy rates of 74.6–90% for sun spots (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology).
BBL takes that proven foundation further. Sciton calls BBL HERO “the world's most powerful IPL device,” with visible results in just 1–2 treatments where traditional IPL often needs 5–6 (Sciton). You can expect your skin to look a little flushed right after your session, similar to a mild sunburn, but this usually fades within a few hours. If we are targeting sun damage, those freckles and age spots will initially darken (often resembling tiny coffee grounds) before naturally flaking off over the next few days. It’s a great sign that the treatment is working to reveal a brighter, more even complexion underneath!
Absolutely! One of the best things about BBL HEROic is the minimal downtime. You can comfortably resume your normal daily activities and go to work. If you have any lingering redness or darkening spots as your skin renews itself, you can safely apply makeup the very next day to cover it up.
