Hair restoration

What is hair restoration with microneedling and PDGF+?

Hair restoration at Epiphany Clinic is scalp microneedling with PDGF+. A Dermapen 4 makes thousands of tiny, even channels in your scalp, then Ariessence PDGF+, a lab-made platelet-derived growth factor, is applied so it can reach the follicles. Most people do a series of 3 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart, and thicker-looking hair builds over 3 to 6 months. It works for men and women, and there's no blood draw.

The tools. The Dermapen 4 is an FDA-cleared microneedling system. Its 16-needle cartridge makes up to 1,920 microchannels per second, so treatment is quick and even across your scalp. Ariessence PDGF+ is pure, recombinant PDGF made in a sterile lab, so every vial is consistent. We also use both for skin: see microneedling and Ariessence PDGF+.

Why men and women come in

What does the research say?

  • Microneedling creates tiny channels in the scalp, and a few studies have shown it can help stimulate hair growth (American Academy of Dermatology).
  • Hereditary hair loss affects an estimated 50 million men and 30 million women in the U.S. (MedlinePlus). Treatment works best when it starts at the first sign of thinning (AAD).
  • Ariessence PDGF+ is pure, recombinant PDGF made without a blood draw, applied topically after microneedling (Ariessence).

How it works

Your hair restoration plan, step by step

Step 1 · Consult

A scalp check and a real plan

Your consult is complimentary. We look at your scalp, take baseline photos and talk through what may be behind your thinning. If hormones, thyroid or iron could be part of it, Stephany can order labs.

Step 2 · Treatment

Microneedling with the Dermapen 4

We numb your scalp first. Then the Dermapen 4 works across the thinning areas, making even, tiny channels at a depth set for your scalp.

Step 3 · Same visit

PDGF+ goes on right away

Ariessence PDGF+ is applied while the channels are open. Your scalp may be pink and tender for a day or two, and you go home with clear aftercare.

Step 4 · Months 1–6

A series, then maintenance

Most plans are 3 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart. Thicker-looking hair builds over 3 to 6 months, and one maintenance session every 3 to 4 months helps you keep it.

Results vary from person to person. We compare against your baseline photos so you can see your progress instead of guessing.

Compare

PDGF+ vs. PRP: what's the difference?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is made from your own blood. PDGF+ is a lab-made version of one of the key growth factors found in platelets. Here's how they compare.

How does it compare to minoxidil or a hair transplant?

There's no single right answer, and many people combine options. Stephany can prescribe minoxidil when it fits your plan, and we'll tell you honestly if a transplant surgeon or a dermatologist is the better next step.

FAQ

Hair restoration FAQs

Does microneedling with PDGF+ work for men?

Yes. Thinning at the hairline and crown in men is usually hereditary pattern hair loss, and that's what this treatment is built for. It tends to work best when you start early, while there are still follicles to support. At your consult we'll look at your scalp and tell you straight whether you're a good candidate.

Is PDGF+ the same as PRP?

No. PRP is made from your own blood. Ariessence PDGF+ is a pure, lab-made platelet-derived growth factor, so there's no blood draw and every vial is the same. We apply it to your scalp right after microneedling.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people start with a series of 3 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart. The Essential Series (1 vial of PDGF+ per session) is for early to moderate thinning, and the Intensive Series (2 vials per session) is for moderate to advanced thinning. After that, one maintenance session every 3 to 4 months helps you keep your results.

When will I see results?

Hair grows slowly, so give it a few months. Most people see thicker-looking hair build over 3 to 6 months. Results vary, and we compare against your baseline photos so you can see real progress.

Does it hurt, and is there downtime?

We numb your scalp before we start, so most people feel pressure and light prickling rather than pain. Your scalp may be pink and tender for a day or two. There's very little downtime, and you'll go home with clear aftercare instructions.

Can I combine it with minoxidil or Nutrafol?

Yes, and many people do. Stephany can prescribe minoxidil when it fits your plan, and we carry Nutrafol supplements, shampoo and conditioner in clinic to support your results at home.

Will testosterone therapy make my hair loss worse?

It can for some men. Male pattern baldness is a listed side effect of testosterone (FDA label). If you're on TRT or thinking about it and you're prone to thinning, we'll talk through that risk honestly and plan around it. Learn more about hormone therapy for men.

How much does hair restoration cost?

Your consult is complimentary. The Essential Series is $2,295 and the Intensive Series is $3,495. A single session is $900, and maintenance sessions are $750 once you've finished a series.

When should I see a dermatologist instead?

If your hair is coming out in round patches, falling out suddenly, or your scalp is red, scaly or scarred, see a board-certified dermatologist (AAD). We'll tell you if that's you and point you in the right direction. Read more about what causes hair loss.
